One-Way Car Hire from Cape Town

All our cars start and finish in Cape Town, where our fleet and hosts are based. When you leave a car in another city, a Mylz driver travels there, collects it and drives it back, and the one-way fee covers that trip. Because the cost depends on the destination, the car and how soon we can bring it back, we quote each one-way rental individually rather than publishing a flat fee that would be wrong for most routes.

   We reply with the rental and the one-way fee as one written total, VAT included.

   Collect in Cape Town

   Meet-and-greet at the airport or delivery to your hotel, as with any rental.

   Hand over at the other end

   Meet our driver at the agreed airport or address, at a time agreed in advance.

Driving times assume normal traffic and no stops. Take a break at least every two hours, and we strongly recommend not driving long rural stretches after dark, when livestock, pedestrians and unlit trucks are hard to see.

Across the South African market, one-way fees range widely, from under R1,000 for short hops between major branches to R4,000 or more for long routes (based on our own research of published fees, October 2026). Large networks can charge less because another customer will often drive the car back. A Cape Town-only operator can't rely on that, so for very long one-way trips our fee will usually be higher than a national chain's.

Things that lower the fee:

• Flexible drop-off times that let our driver combine the trip with a flight.
• Airports, which are easier for us to reach than private addresses.
• Longer rentals, where the fee is a smaller share of the total.

Garden Route one-way: Cape Town to George or Plettenberg Bay (4–6 days)

Day 1: Hermanus via Clarence Drive (R44). Day 2: Cape Agulhas and Swellendam. Day 3: Mossel Bay to Wilderness. Day 4: Knysna and Plettenberg Bay. Drop the car at George Airport and fly home, or continue east to Gqeberha.

Route 62 and the Garden Route (5–7 days)

Head inland via Worcester, Robertson and Montagu along Route 62 to Oudtshoorn, cross the Outeniqua Pass to George, then drive the coast to Plettenberg Bay and on to Gqeberha.

Cape Town to Johannesburg (2–3 days)

The N1 through the Karoo is long and straight. Break it at Matjiesfontein, Beaufort West or Colesberg, and fill up whenever you pass a fuel station on the longer stretches. If you have time, the coastal route via the Garden Route and the Eastern Cape takes about a week.

We can arrange a handover at George Airport, Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport in Gqeberha, O.R. Tambo International in Johannesburg or King Shaka International in Durban, or at a hotel or home in those cities. The time and place are agreed in advance and confirmed in your quote. As with any rental, the car is checked with you at handover and the deposit hold is released once it is back in Cape Town and inspected.
