Why Cape Town drivers choose Mylz
Most car rental in Cape Town still starts with a queue: a desk in the terminal, a shuttle to an off-airport lot, then a car that is a category rather than a model. We built Mylz Rentals around the opposite idea. There is no public office. Every rental begins with a person who meets you, and every car is prepared for you before you arrive.
- Meet-and-greet at CPT. Your host waits in the arrivals hall with a Mylz sign, walks you to the car in the parkade and takes you through it. Share your flight number and we track delays at no extra charge.
- Delivery to your door. Hotels in the City Bowl, apartments in Sea Point, family homes in Constantia, offices in Century City and wine estates in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek are all within our delivery zones.
- Know what you're getting. Every listing shows the exact model. Flagship cars marked "Guaranteed model" are exactly the car you booked; the rest are that model or a direct equivalent in the same category.
- Owner-supplied, Mylz-managed. Our cars come from vetted private owners and are inspected, insured for rental use, serviced and detailed by us. You book, pay and deal only with Mylz.
- Verified before you land. Upload your licence and ID online, so the handover takes minutes rather than paperwork at a counter.
How it works
- 01
Book online
Pick dates, a handover point (airport or a delivery zone) and a car. Your full quote shows the rate, cover, fees and deposit before you pay.
- 02
Verify in minutes
Upload your licence, ID or passport and a selfie from your phone. We check everything before the day.
- 03
We hand over
Your host meets you at arrivals or at your address, walks round the car with you and signs the digital contract.
- 04
Drive, then we collect
Return at the airport or have us collect from your address in a delivery zone. The deposit hold is released once the car is checked.
Prices and what's included
Daily rates start from R649 a day and every rate includes 15% VAT. The per-day rate drops for rentals of 7 days or more and again from 28 days, which is why a two-week Garden Route trip often costs less per day than a long weekend. Rates for the festive season (mid-December to early January) are higher, so book early if you are visiting then.
| Car | Per day | 7+ days | Kilometres |
|---|---|---|---|
| Volkswagen Polo | R649 | R579 | 200 km a day |
| Mercedes-Benz C-Class | R1,499 | R1,349 | 250 km a day |
| Toyota Fortuner 4x4 | R1,599 | R1,429 | 300 km a day |
| BMW iX (electric) | R3,299 | R2,899 | unlimited kilometres |
| Range Rover Sport | R4,499 | R3,999 | 250 km a day |
Essential Cover is included in every rental: collision and theft damage waivers, third-party liability and 24/7 roadside assistance, with an excess of R25,000. Signature Cover reduces the excess to R7,500 and Black Cover to zero. The refundable deposit is held on a credit card in the main driver's name; the full table of deposits and cover is further down this page.
Where we deliver
We operate across four delivery zones plus the airport, all served by one shared fleet: City Bowl & Atlantic Seaboard (V&A Waterfront, Green Point, Sea Point, Clifton, Camps Bay), the Southern Suburbs (Rondebosch, Newlands, Claremont, Constantia, down to Muizenberg), the Northern Suburbs & Blouberg (Century City, Milnerton, Bloubergstrand, Durbanville, Bellville) and the Cape Winelands (Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Paarl, Somerset West).
You can start at the airport and finish at your hotel, or the other way round. Fees per zone are listed in the table below; see airport meet-and-greet or delivery and collection for how each handover works.
Choosing the right car for Cape Town
Cape Town is compact, but the driving is varied: steep City Bowl streets, tight parking in Camps Bay and at the V&A Waterfront, the cliff-edge curves of Chapman's Peak, and long open roads to the Winelands and the West Coast. A few honest pointers:
- Couples staying in town rarely need more than a compact or executive sedan. Smaller cars are far easier to park along the Atlantic Seaboard in summer.
- Families and golf groups should look at a 7-seat SUV or 4x4 or a V-Class or 8-seat people carrier; luggage space runs out before seats do.
- Special occasions and business travel suit our luxury car hire range, or book a private chauffeur and skip the driving altogether.
- Longer stays of a month or more are cheapest on our long-term car rental rates.
- Quiet and quick is the electric car hire option, with unlimited kilometres and a charging plan.
- Wind matters. The summer south-easter can gust hard along the coast and over the passes. Open doors carefully, and keep that in mind with roof-mounted luggage.
Heading beyond the city? We deliver to Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, and arrange one-way car hire to the Garden Route and beyond on request.
Car hire vs car rental: same thing, here's what to check
In South Africa "car hire" and "car rental" mean the same thing. What differs between companies is the fine print, and that is where a cheap headline rate can become an expensive week. Before you book anywhere, check:
- The deposit and whether it must be a credit card (ours must, in the main driver's name).
- The excess on the included cover, and what it costs per day to reduce it.
- The kilometre allowance. A Cape Point loop from the city is around 150 km; a Winelands day can be similar.
- Location and delivery fees, including airport surcharges and after-hours charges.
- "Or similar". Whether you are booking a model or just a category.
- Age and licence rules for the category you want, including any young-driver surcharge.
